For curious minds ages 3–12

➗ Helping with Division

Everything you need to help — without doing it for them.

🎯 What the child needs to learn: The child needs to understand fair sharing and how division connects to multiplication.

🧭 Simple explanation (for you)

Division is sharing fairly. 12 ÷ 4 means "12 shared among 4". Deal real objects out one by one. And since 3 × 4 = 12, we know 12 ÷ 4 = 3.

✨ Example: Example: 12 sweets, 4 people → deal them out → 3 each → 12 ÷ 4 = 3.

❓ Questions to ask

  • “How many are we sharing?”
  • “How many people/groups?”
  • “How many each?”
  • “What multiplication matches this?”

💡 Hints (not answers)

  • Deal real objects fairly
  • Connect to multiplication facts
  • Check by multiplying back
  • Draw circles and share dots

🏡 Practice activity

The sharing game: deal cards or snacks fairly and say the division sentence aloud.
