For curious minds ages 3–12

✖️ Helping with Multiplication

Everything you need to help — without doing it for them.

🎯 What the child needs to learn: The child needs to see multiplication as groups of equal size and repeated addition — before memorising tables.

🧭 Simple explanation (for you)

4 × 3 means "4 groups of 3". Show it with plates and biscuits, write it as 3+3+3+3, arrange it in rows — then connect all three to 4 × 3 = 12.

✨ Example: Example: 4 × 3: 4 plates, 3 biscuits each → 3+3+3+3 = 12 → 4 rows of 3 → 4 × 3 = 12.

❓ Questions to ask

  • “How many groups?”
  • “How many in each group?”
  • “Can you write it as adding?”
  • “Can you draw the rows?”

💡 Hints (not answers)

  • Use groups of real objects
  • Write the repeated addition
  • Build an array (rows and columns)
  • Say the fact family: 3×4, 4×3, 12÷3, 12÷4

🏡 Practice activity

Plate groups at dinner: count groups, write the addition, then the multiplication.
